A little travel

Well things are getting hectic around here as we are gearing up for our mission trip (no rocking chair for this grampa).  Last minute preparations are going along pretty smoothly. Communications are ready (talkie-walkies, as my grandson calls them).  Medical supply are still lacking somewhat but I’m sure they’ll find what is needed in time.  Seems there is a national shortage of whatever pain reliever they are needing. Supplies needed for the school are coming together, but they’re still gathering the last minute items. Packing will start on Thursday. That’s a science or maybe even an art with so much to pack and so little room We are traveling lighter this time so we can travel faster.

Cooking is an essential part of these mission trips. Although the local people fix our lunch we cook our own breakfast and dinner. They use a lot of rice and curry (poor peoples food) along with fish, eggs, chicken, goat and vegetables that are very spinach-like. So our evening meal is usually an entertaining time, especially this trip, as we have several excellent cooks (not professionals) traveling with us. We’ll have an Iron Chef cook-off one night using the local vegetation, meats (usually chicken) and whatever secret ingredients we can take with us which isn’t much since we don’t have much room to pack in.

I’ll be in charge of the computers, when we arrive there. That’s my area of expertise having work in the field in various ways for 20 some years. They have a computer school which teaches the local people some basic computer skills with the purpose of helping them get a job in a larger city.  I’ll be posting updates as time allows.
